TCC Website Redesign Launched on 40th Anniversary
In conjunction with the College's 40th Anniversary Celebration, the redesigned tcc.fl.edu site was launched April 1st, 2006. The major undertaking replaced several thousand static HTML pages and existing systems with a unified content management system.
One of the more difficult aspects of the project was gathering and processing input from the College's faculty, staff, administration, and students, and combining all the information into an agreeable, actionable plan. Over the course of the project more than 100 individuals influenced the final outcome to some degree.
The new site is built with accessible templates, standards compliant code, and all of the design is managed through external stylesheets. The College's IT staff appreciated the selection of an open-source-based content management system, preventing unnecessary lock-in and ensuring that needed features would be either available or could be achieved through customization.
The site receives an average of 30,000 visits per day, with as many as 75,000 per day during periods of active class registration and enrollment.
