DMS Website Redesign Released

ThinkCreative first launched the a content-managed website for the State of Florida Department of Management Services in 2003, replacing over 10 legacy systems with one, integrated, template-based system. Since its launch, over 10,000 pages have been created by the 50+ content managers maintaining the system.

This year, a redesign of the site was initiated to update the design and functionality of the site without disrupting any of the existing content and structure. The enhancements occurred on many levels:

  • the visual design was updated and refined
  • the new templates are XHTML/CSS with no tables used for layout
  • Section 508 accessibility was maintained with the new templates
  • AJAX is used to enhance site usability in both the public site and the administrative interfaces
  • new content types and functions were added to improve flexibility for content managers
  • a new feedback mechanism was added to allow users an opportunity to communicate with us if they encounter any problems
  • the web server and caching systems were optimized, and the server can now sustain over 40 million page views a day

One additional benefit of these enhancements is that future redesigns will be possible without the creation or modification of any templates, now that the entire site is styled by external stylesheets.

Public Sector Web Development

Accessibility, compatibility, standards, and reliability are all major concerns of our public sector clients. ThinkCreative's ongoing work with the Department of Management Services shows that its enterprise content management solutions are effective tools for managing the web presence of government agencies.
